The Phoenix (フェニックス,   Fenikkusu?) or the Undying Bird (不死鳥,   Fushi-Chō?) was the monster seen in the novel, Gamera vs. Phoenix, by Niisan Takahashi, the scriptwriter of the Showa series.

Apprance[]

It resembles a gigantic, scarlet avian with a long beak, but it lacks eyes and nostrils.

Its body is completely composed from magma and flame.

Origin[]

Next to nothing about its origin is unclear.

Yao Bikuni and other humans believed that Phoenix was either a product of environmental pollutions, or an unknown entity being somehow trapped inside the Earth, and Gamera is destined to defeat it when it emerges.

Personality[]

It constantly "weeps" and repeats suicidal behaviors for unknown reasons, while Miwa Nonaka, the Yao Bikuni who became another unwilling immortal, later interpreted that it weeps because of the mental pain due to its immortality, cursing its fate that it can never die.

It was mentioned that Gamera apparently knew Phoenix's desire to die, and he was trying to end its distress.

Ability[]

Magma Body[]

As its body is completely composed of magma and flame, its emits extreme heat.

Despite lacking visible eyes, it often drops "tears" which is about 20 to 30cm in size and is highly dangerous and destructive to emit heat comparable to incendiary bombs.

Immortality[]

It is literally immortal both physically and spiritually.

Its body is immune to physical damages including any of Gamera's attacks, including Fire Breath, Spinnin Jet, Shell Cutter, and any conventional weapons, further increasing its mental pain as it can't die with any suicidal attempts it makes. Its body is even hotter than its tears, melting Tokyo Tower in mere seconds when it impaled itself with the tower, and evaporated sea waters when it threw itself to the sea. When Gamera hurled an iceberg which was the size of the Tokyo Dome, it had no effect on the bird kaiju.

When it threw itself on explosives such as a truck full of dynamites and an oil tanker, its body was broken into pieces but instantly regenerated.

History[]

Years after Showa Gamera defeated monsters and disappeared, the "new" Gamera, with the physical appearance akin to that of Gamera from the Heisei Trilogy, suddenly emerged from underneath the newly discovered 206th geoglyph of the Nazca Lines.

Mysteriously, this Gamera suddenly began to attack industrial factories around the world especially chemical plants. As humanity believed that Gamera is their absolute protector, Gamera's behaviors shocked the world and humanity began to disbelieve in the turtle kaiju while he was trying to save the world from an upcoming danger.

It was when a concentrated laser-like sunlight, emitted from an Ozone hole created by years of environmental pollutions by humanity, suddenly hit the town of Shinkoiwa, devastating the area and penetrated the earth, creating a gigantic hole and revealed the mantle.

Phoenix appeared from the magma hole, and soon began suicidal attempts, causing damages elsewhere. Humanity mistook that the bird kaiju was "attacking" them, and military forces were deployed against it.

Gamera also appeared to fight against Phoenix, however any of attacks and tactics by him and humanity had no effect on the gigantic bird.

Eventually, Gamera sealed Phoenix back into the magma hole, and Gamera flew and "sealed" the Ozone hole with his own body to save the world, however the turtle kaiju has to stay up in the sky either for eternity or until humanity fixes the environmental damages they have caused.
